VitalSource Acquires Acrobatiq

The Acquisition is Dramatically Expanding VitalSource’s Analytics and Adaptive Learning Capabilities

RALEIGH, N.C.– Leading digital content provider VitalSource Technologies LLC has acquired the assets of learning and data analytics platform Acrobatiq, Inc. The acquisition will dramatically expand access to cutting-edge and personalized digital course experiences designed to improve student outcomes.

“We welcome Acrobatiq’s team to the VitalSource family,” said Pep Carrera, President of VitalSource®. “VitalSource already does more than just deliver learning materials. We empower students and faculty with the resources necessary to promote greater success. By combining Acrobatiq’s cognitive and data science-based platform with VitalSource’s valued relationships with publishers and institutions, we have an opportunity to bring high impact learning to the market at an unprecedented scale.”

Demand to address student affordability and outcomes has expanded rapidly in recent years, and institutions and publishers have increasingly turned to digital course materials and platforms to address the issue. In the last 12 months, VitalSource helped save U.S. students more than $100,000,000 by providing access to the largest catalog of high-quality, low-cost digital materials from respected publishers like Pearson, McGraw-Hill, and Cengage and more than 1500 others.

With this acquisition, the potential for digital learning to lower costs and improve student achievement can be fully realized. The Acrobatiq platform provides VitalSource partners with a powerful new option to create and deliver rich digital courses that adapt to the needs of each learner, and harness data science and artificial intelligence to enable greater student achievement.

“I could not have hoped for a better home” said Eric Frank, CEO of Acrobatiq. “We have built a powerful platform that helps students learn. But the platform needs great content. Our customers want that content to come from publishers, open education resources, or to create it themselves. Often, they want to do all of the above in a single course. Being a part of VitalSource brings that possibility to life. And that, in turn, brings to life the possibility of the adoption of adaptive courseware at a scale that we could only dream about before.”
